For a couple of minutes this morning, my car shared the road with a tractor trailer.
We were traveling west, me moving along in the left lane, he slightly behind in the right.
The turkey vultures up ahead - also in the right lane - flapped their impressive wingspan and began peeling off to avoid becoming the very roadkill they had descended upon. A few remained. You know, the ones who have to peck one more piece.
I heard the long blast of the air horn. In my rear view mirror, the tardy birds cleared a near miss.
The semi rumbled up alongside me. I gave the driver a solid thumbs up.
As he passed, he waved at me out his window.
Unexpectedly, my eyes teared up.
He could have just run the birds down.
But he didn’t.

Home later, I learned the fabulous literary mag Fictive Dream had officially said good-bye to the blue bird formerly known as Twitter.
This departure hurt.
Editor Laura Black has championed the work of so many writers and that being said, will absolutely continue to do so on other social platforms; yet, I’ll miss the FD posts tweeting out and about the once vibrant Twitter literary community.
Simply said, Fictive Dream classed up the former bird currently passing as 24 - 7 roadkill.
Look for Fictive Dream at Instagram, Threads, Bluesky and Facebook, Linktree and

Watch for Micro Monday, upcoming April 2025.
Thank you, Laura.

“On Sunday” appeared online at Bending Genres, 4/14/2023.
The micro is a sweet scoop of word salad to swirl about the mouth.
Thank you, Bending Genres.

On Sunday
Presbyterian vegetarians saddle sea urchins and go for a roe. Wahoo yahoo holy water woo. Sushi sirens singsong seduction, spinach puffs are Jesus’ best wrapped gift. Crab rangoons goon naked crudités enticed by a slice of chanterelle mushroom toast. Devils ride horseback on angel wings swept set with a picnic. Rainbow napkins. Ostrich feathers and yellow dollhouse doors. A side of melancholy. Shrimp tail woe. A goldfish bowl.
Thank you for reading.
